Dijon to Lyon

The best vintages from this period were the following:

1933This was a very small harvest but the best of what was produced in terms of reds were very stylish and well received.

1934 – In total contrast with 1933, 1934 was the largest vintage of the decade with a very hot summer though good reds and whites were produced.

1937 – To my mind the best vintage of the decade and perhaps not equalled until the great vintages of 1945 and 1949. I was lucky to be invited to a tasting of the great 1937’s about 20 years ago and it was amazing to see some wines in excellent shape. It was a small harvest and the best wines were impressively concentrated and the tannic structure gave them some serious longevity. The whites did not fare all that well.
