Hubert Lignier started to manage the family estate in the 1960’s having been started by Jacques Lignier in the 1880’s and quickly developed a reputation for crafting superb wines of great richness, depth and concentration. His Clos de la Roche was always seen as one of the benchmarks of the appellation. In 1992, Hubert brought in his son Romain to manage the Domaine but tragically he died in 2004 and in 2006, his brother Laurent joined his father and they now produce 24 different cuvees from their 9ha of vineyards which are now farmed organically.
Along with Clos de la Roche (0.33ha) and Charmes Chambertin (0.05ha) Hubert and Laurent produce 6 separate Morey Saint Denis Premier Crus. All wines are made in tiny quantities and the result is beautifully succulent, rich wines that demonstrate great class and finesse and are amongst the finest expression of individual terroir.
