1961 Vintage: General Appreciation
In a similar way to the 1959’s, 1961 was another outstanding success in many French regions and in Burgundy, it was a small vintage with the best wines being some of the most long-lived. In general the 61’s do not have the uniformity of the 1959’s with some lacking the breadth and generosity associated with the very best vintages.
Red Wines
The best of the reds are fruit-driven and balanced though this was by no means uniform so selection is key to enjoyment here.
White Wines
Perhaps, as a general rule the whites were a shade better and more even though it will be tough to find some examples that are drinking well now.
